Book Characteristics

Finished Trim Sizes

Books fall into three pricing groups based on size thresholds. Once any threshold is exceeded, the pricing for the book goes into the next largest book group (width in inches x height in inches).

GROUP A Trim Size: 4" x 6" but smaller than, or equal to, 5 ¼" x 8 ¼"

GROUP B Trim Size: larger than 5 ¼" x 8 ¼" but smaller than,
or equal to, 6" x 9"

GROUP C Trim Size: larger than 6" x 9" but smaller than,
or equal to, 8 ½" X 11"

Please note: The exact trim size must be noted for accurate quotes and printing.

Available Paper Stocks

Printorium Bookworks in-house paper stocks allow for excellent print quality in the books we produce. We have default paper in white, cream and 100% recycled stocks. If you require a special paper stock, please contact your account representative for custom paper selections and applicable pricing.

• For black and white text and/or images, the default paper stock is 60lb. Offset White, in 94 brightness. The 60lb. paper is acid free, elemental chlorine free, with 40% post consumer content. Also available in 50lb. and 70lb. weight..
  
  
• For colour pages, our default paper stock is an acid free 80lb. Productolith Matte or 80lb Productolith Gloss in a 92 brightness. Also available in a 100lb. weight matte or gloss.
  
  
• Covers are printed on 10pt. C1S (coated 1 side) Cornwall card stock. The cover stock is acid free, elemental chlorine free, and recycled 10% post consumer in a 92 brightness. Also available in 12pt. C1S. Printed covers are usually laminated with a gloss or matte laminate just prior to binding the book.

The basis weight of a paper (ie. 60 lbs.) is the designated fixed weight of 500 sheets, measured in pounds, in that paper's basic sheet size. It is important to note that the "basic sheet size" is not the same for all types of paper and that some types of paper come in a variety of sheet sizes.

Book Interior Page Counts - Minimums & Maximums

Black & white books perfect bound using the 60lb. Husky Offset:

• Maximum for Perfect Bound books - The maximum spine width that can be bound as a perfect bound book on our equipment will be 1.75 inches. For a perfect bound book, the spine width will vary depending on the weight of the paper used for printing. See our Spine Calculator for calculating exact spine widths.
• Minimum for Perfect Bound books – The minimum page count for a perfect bound book is 30 pages (15 sheets). Any book with a page count of less than 30 pages should be saddle stitched.

Saddle Stitched Booklets with Cornwall cover and 60lb. Husky inside:

• Maximum Page Count: 88 pages
• Minimum Page Count: 8 pages
  
  

Plastic Cerlox and Spiro Bound (lay flat) with Cornwall cover and up to 60lb. Husky:

• Maximum Page Count: 700 pages
• Minimum Page Count: 6 pages

How to Reorder

We try to make reordering your book as quick and easy as possible. Once you have approved your proof copy, we store your “approved” file in our digital archive. When you need additional copies printed from the same file, just give us a call, or send an email to your sales representative. Please note that book printing prices are subject to change, so we will always try to give you a price quote before your book is reprinted.

Please note that if you wish to submit new files for your reprint, you will be charged the setup and proofing fee again and we will prepare and ship a new proof copy for you before proceeding with additional copies.

Binding Types

Perfect Binding: Most commonly used binding for paperback books. The adhesive is versatile, secure and long lasting. Perfect bound covers have a score line approximately ¼" from the spine, both front and back, to allow for easy open of the cover.

Saddle Stitch Binding (Signature Booklets): Generally found in catalogues, the book is folded in half with two staples into the spine.

Plastic Cerlox and Spiro Binding: A flexible binding type of 19 rings (cerlox) and continuous plastic wire (spiro) allows for books to lie flat.

Wire Binding: A continuous twin loop wire allows for books to lie flat.

Laminated Covers

Printorium Bookworks offers both gloss and matte laminate for book covers. Used as both a protector and an enhancer for covers, it is highly recommended. Another option is not to laminate the covers at all. Included near the rear of this guide are samples of the gloss and matte laminate on the 10pt. cover stock.
